AEF Achievements for 2006
2006-12-10
1.Life Education
“Life Education” Speeches
The speakers shared their life stories of how they overcame obstacles and how they persisted until they succeeded, inspiring how we should cherish each day and live it to the fullest
2.Care for the Disadvantaged
(1)“Books to Inmates. Send Love to Prisons” Project
The ADLINK Education Foundation asked for donations for the books-to-inmates project. With each donation equaling the price of Ming Liu’s book Life is Good (published by Rhythms Monthly), a copy was purchased and sent to inmates to support their positive personal and educational development, to reduce recidivism and to enhance rehabilitation. One thousand books were delivered to Taoyuan Women’s Prison, Taichung Women’s Prison and Kaohsiung Women’s Prison in the first donation period. This was followed by another 1,000 books sent to juvenile inmates aged 12 to 18 in Taoyuan Reform School, Changhua Reform School, Chengjheng High School in Hsinchu and Mingyang High School in Kaohsiung in the second donation period.
(2)Fundraising for a Colleague with Lupus
ADLINK Technology Inc. started an internal fundraising event for Wen-Qiang Xie, a sales engineer in the Shenzhen branch in China. He underwent a three-week treatment in Shenzhen after being diagnosed with lupus erythematosus. With no distinct improvement made, he left for Beijing and received a nearly one-week long treatment, but there was no hospital bed available. With the expected high cost of medical expense after being hospitalized, ADLINK conducted a fundraiser to raise money.
3.Care for the Disabled
In coordination with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2006, AEF took part in the following events:
(1)Organized “Repair Cell Phones and Create Possibilities” Benefit Concert
Although individuals with disabilities have physical and mental deficiencies, many also have extraordinary artistic talents and skills. Musicians with disabilities were given the chance to show their gifts, were provided with more employment opportunities and were encouraged to break through their self-imposed limits. By doing this, AEF also strived to draw more attention to the talents of disabled people.
(2)Organized the 6th Model Family with Disabled Members Award Ceremony
This award recognized people with disabilities who overcame life difficulties with persistence, formed a healthy and harmonious family, were role models, were involved in charity and community services, transformed public attitudes, and developed a harmonious society. Events like this that bring to light the award winners’ achievements can serve to promote the participation in and contribution of society, and provide many others who were lost, frustrated and having a hard time role models to follow. These events also serve to encourage them to be driven and inspired, and to focus, to achieve goals and strive to gain success in creating a society with beauty, health and courtesy.
(3)Assisted with the Press Conference of the “Inspirational Vision Calendar”
(4)Assisted with the “Crescent Beauty - Disabled Talent Show”
One purpose of the talent show is to show the public the abilities of the disabled, to help it understand that being disabled does not have to be a disadvantage, to accept people with disabilities, and to encourage government funded support for them. Another purpose is to inspire the disabled to be useful members of society, and to find methods to transform their disabilities into abilities. The name of the show served to show the public that the crescent moon may seem incomplete but it lights up the sky, just as people with disabilities may seem to be disadvantaged, but are just as strong and can shine just as bright.
4.Social Welfare
(1)Assisted the Jinhong Foundation’s “Thumbs Up for the Youth!” Volunteer Project
(2)Assisted with the Labor Affairs Bureau with “Embrace Hope!” Handicraft Market
The market had various stands selling handicrafts made by people with disabilities, including The First Bakery, established by The First Social Welfare Foundation; Friend of Hearts Shop, funded by the Taipei Life of Heart Association; Star Handmade Studio, sponsored by the Taiwan Autism Society; and The Little Shells Workshop, developed by the Taipei Autism Parents Association, et al. Famous disabled performers such as The Five Eyes, an orchestral performing group, and Wen-Jie Tang took part. The groups not only demonstrated their sponsorship effectiveness, but also received encouragement to overcome life challenges.
(3)Assisted with the 10th Annual Christmas Celebration of Taiwan Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) Society
