What’s a fun way to spend your summer days? ADDLINK Education Foundation (AEF) is offering a great opportunity for those who are looking to experience the arts of Beijing opera or take a quick fresh break before the entrance examinations.
The AEF was established with the mission to give back to society. Its long-term cooperation with Wei-Chian Ma from the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts (NTCPA) in the “Cross-Straight Summer Camp for Kids,” as well as advocacy on technology and arts programs, has provided cultural exchange opportunities and benefited numerous children and youth volunteers. This has brought cross-strait acclaim.
This year, the AEF will not only promote cross-strait arts exchanges as scheduled, but also will offer the ADDLINK Beijing Opera Summer Camp prior to the entrance examinations. Offered for free to local students who are over 12 years old, the program will be held to attract the public to Chinese traditional performance.
“Our goal of this camp is to instill an appreciation and awareness of traditional performing arts,” said Harn-Fen Ni, the Chairman of AEF. “The camp is free for all participants of the annual ADDLINK Cross-Straight Summer Camp so they can be exposed to various forms of the operatic arts. Prospective students of the NTCPA entering grades 6-9 who reside in rural areas with a disadvantaged background are invited to take part without charge. This gives them an opportunity to learn about the arts of the Beijing opera before the examination, and also to gain more familiarity with the culture of traditional opera.”
Dr. Jui-Pin Chang, president of the NTCPA said, “The arts of traditional opera can be traced back to ancient times and have long been regarded as a cultural treasure. They incorporate various art forms, such as poetry, song, music and dance, displayed in a comprehensive literary and artistic manner. It is worthwhile to cherish these traditions, to promote them, and to pass them on to future generations. I appreciate the encouragement and support the AEF has provided for traditional opera.”
The camp will take place from July 2 to 6 (5 days), on the NTCPA campus in Neihu. Prospective students aged 12-18 who are interested in applying for the NTCPA are encouraged try it out, attaining a new skill while releasing exam stress.
