  • Now, we’re sharing insights from Lin Yanzi, a volunteer from the Taiwan Police College.  During the camp, Yanzi also took part in social media promotion, capturing many wonderful moments from this year’s program!

As early as the end of April, we began discussing lesson plans at ADLINK with the volunteer team. From theme design and activity content to task division and collaboration, every step was filled with challenges and learning. Although those preparation days were busy, watching our plans gradually take shape filled my heart with growing excitement.

In August, we officially set off for Chengdu.
In this culturally rich city, we explored beauty together with the children — experiencing the charm of old Chengdu at Kuanzhai Alley, feeling the thrill of meeting pandas up close at the Giant Panda Base, and taking in the majestic mountain views and fresh air at Mount Siguniang.

My favorite day was the one at Mount Siguniang. I was in charge of planning the day’s itinerary, starting from the redwood forest at the top and working our way down. The timing at each scenic spot was just right. During the drives between locations, we opened up, chatted freely, laughed, took photos, and even danced for the kids — the combination of joy and the satisfaction of a perfectly executed plan made it truly unforgettable.

The children’s innocence and enthusiasm filled me with so much warmth. From the moment their parents handed them over to us at the airport — when they were still shy in a new environment — we would crouch down to their level, talk and play with them, offering comfort and a sense of safety. We brought them safely to Chengdu, joined the evening gatherings, and participated in face painting and cultural activities. Before long, they had opened their hearts to us. That trust and dependence made me realize that “companionship” isn’t just about playing together — it’s about being a warm presence when they need it most.

During this time, I also deeply learned that being a volunteer means not only guiding but also observing and listening. Facing children with different personalities sometimes required patience to guide them, and other times the courage to step back and let them try. From them, I re-learned the beauty of sincerity, courage, and sharing.

From planning to execution, every team member gave their all. Whether it was designing the itinerary, leading activities, or taking care of the children’s daily needs, the teachers and volunteers supported one another seamlessly. In our daily reflection meetings, we shared our thoughts and observations. This atmosphere of teamwork made me realize that volunteering isn’t just about giving — it’s about learning and growing together as a group.

This journey to Chengdu made me even more certain of the value of education and service. The children may one day forget the games we played together, but they will surely remember that someone once accompanied, encouraged, and believed in them. And I, too, will always remember these lovely children and this heartwarming journey.

I’m grateful to the ADLINK Education Foundation for giving me the opportunity to join this summer camp. In the future, I hope to continue dedicating myself to volunteer service — to pass on this love and strength to more people in need.
