What I found particularly special here in Germany is the host family system – something that is quite rare in Taiwan. Even more impressive is that they truly treat you like a family member and take care of you with love. That’s why saying goodbye, even after just one or two weeks, is really hard. This warm, heartfelt feeling leaves a deep impression.
When I first arrived, to be honest, my English was at the level of a mute illiterate – I could barely understand anything. I was extremely impatient and wanted to understand everything immediately because I absolutely did not want to be in a situation where I couldn’t communicate. Even though I wanted it so badly, in reality it was often simply impossible – which was really frustrating.
But I feel that, as a Peking Opera class, we also made progress during this time. We don’t argue as much as we used to. Of course, there are still discussions, but overall, it has improved a lot – and I think that’s really wonderful.

Was ich hier in Deutschland besonders finde, ist, dass es Gastfamilien gibt – etwas, das in Taiwan eher selten ist. Und noch beeindruckender ist, dass sie dich wirklich wie ein Familienmitglied behandeln und sich liebevoll um dich kümmern. Deshalb fällt der Abschied, selbst wenn man nur eine oder zwei Wochen bleibt, richtig schwer. Dieses warme, herzliche Gefühl hinterlässt einen tiefen Eindruck.
Als ich damals angekommen bin, war mein Englisch ehrlich gesagt auf dem Niveau eines stummen Analphabeten – ich habe wirklich kaum etwas verstanden. Ich war total ungeduldig und wollte unbedingt alles sofort verstehen, weil ich auf keinen Fall in einer Situation sein wollte, in der ich mich nicht verständigen kann. Obwohl ich es so sehr wollte, war es in der Realität oft einfach nicht möglich – das war wirklich frustrierend.
Aber ich finde, dass wir als Peking-Opern-Klasse in dieser Zeit auch Fortschritte gemacht haben. Wir streiten nicht mehr so oft wie früher. Klar, es gibt immer noch Diskussionen, aber insgesamt ist es viel besser geworden – und das finde ich richtig schön.
